Banks of the Oswego • PDF
Words & Music by Sherri Reese
You might think this is an old western story
About small town injustice and killing for glory
But it happened one night around sundown
In a little New York town
On the banks of the Oswego
Far away from the deserts of Old Mexico
He was an outlaw, that much was true
But like Billy the Kid, he had another side too
As the years rolled on, his life took a twist
But his reputation hung like the mist
On the banks of the Oswego
Far away from the deserts of Old Mexico
A new kid in town, with a gunslinger grin
Challenged him in the alley by the Old Time Inn
Nobody knows why it all began
Or why he lay dying in the sand
On the banks of the Oswego
Far away from the deserts of Old Mexico
The sheriff declared, it was self defense
Was bound to happen, it all made sense
So with a brand new notch in his gun
The kid walked away into the setting sun
On the banks of the Oswego
Far away from the deserts of Old Mexico
The tale was written by the ones still alive
But his story lies behind the lines
Truth will never be known about that showdown
In a little New York town
On the banks of the Oswego
Far away from the deserts of Old Mexico
