Sometime in 1987, a handful of song-writers living in the Rochester, NY, area took part in a Songwriters Workshop as part of the Golden Link Folk Singing Society's education program. Everyone involved realized it would be a great idea to meet on a regular basis, and Tuesday evening songwriting discussions became a regular and much enjoyed event.

Joe LaMay applied for a grant from the local arts council to help produce an album of the group's original songs, but the grant was not awarded. Not one to be deterred, Joe and the group went ahead with the album project on their own, and Local Folkel Records was born.

Joe came up with the name "Flour City Folk" based on an historical sobriquet for Rochester - so named because of the numerous flour mills which were located along waterfalls on the Genesee in the 1800's.

The title "Late for the Meeting" came from Diane Davis - because the writers' Tuesday evening dicussions took place prior to the Golden Link Singaround, and it became a regular occurance that they arrived late for the meeting.

Originally released as a vinyl LP, Flour City Folk / Late for the Meeting" is now availale on CD to mark it's 25th Anniversary (1988 - 2013).
