Between 1986 and 1992, seventeen recordings were released by Local Folkel Records.

The owners of Local Folkel Records - Joe LaMay and Allen Power - had one goal in mind when they went national with their regional label. That goal was to help singer/songwriters produce albums of their songs and get them played on the radio. In no small part that goal was achieved. Local Folkel Records was a significant stepping stone in the careers of each of the artists represented by the label.

There were note-worthy successes:

Steve Key won the Kerrville Folk Festival's "New Folk" competition, and the title song from his "Steve Key - Record Time" was recorded by Kathy Matea.

"Waiting for Isabella" from "Flour City Folk - Late For The Meeting" and "Allen Power - Join The Song" was recorded by Herdman, Hills & Mangsen.

Two songs from "Flour City Folk - Late For The Meeting": Allen Power's "Waiting For Isabella" and Ray Baumler's "We'll Sing Together Again" were featured in SingOut!

Bernice Lewis' recording of Michael Smith's "Dead Egyptian Blues" from "Bernice Lewis - Open Lines & Signals" was a smash hit radio favorite.

But mostly, there was creativity...and there was music!

Most of these recordings are still available from the individual artists. Wherever possible we have provided contact info. If you have any problems contacting any of the artists - or have any questions about purchasing any of these recordings - feel free to contact:
